Damaraland is a remote and rugged area of communal land in Namibia with no National Park status where SRT works tirelessly alongside local communities to patrol and protect the last surviving, free-roaming black Rhino population on earth today. It is a very challenging time for conservation because budgets are hugely compromised due to cancelled fundraising events and a lack of tourism.
The money we raise this year will help with the building of the field camps for the guys patrolling and protecting the rhinos. Save The Rhino Trust Rhino trackers go with Cominity Rhino rangers, they are in teams of 3 to 4 and each Rhino patrol lasts about 3 weeks, they walk an average of 30 to 40 km per day and at night come back to the safety of the field camps which are closed off at night to protect them from Lions and other preditors. The field camps are being upgraded with shower facilities toilets and shaded areas for the guys, kitchen and tented areas they will often break up the three weeks in different areas staying in different camps, we hope to raise as much as we can to keep the guys as comfortable and safe as possible whilst they keep the rhinos monitored and safe in this harsh desert invironment
We aim to raise as much money as possible with this event, to help the cause and to support these shy, nervous and beautiful Rhinos so that they can continue to thrive and survive in their natural home.
Please help us to help the Rhinos and SRT by donating to our JustGiving page.
Thank you all so much, we hope you can get involved and share the message to generate as much support as possible.
